With a view to protecting the IPTV market, the International

to be followed globally for the Internet Protocol Television (IPTV)
and it is believed that this will protect the interests of all the
shareholders.
As part of the innovation for next-generation networks, NGN, IPTV is
one of the most visible services to emerge recently and it has
received a loud acceptance from the populace.
According to ITU, both the business case will be the principal driver
for accelerating deployment of NGN. The standards were built with
technical contributions from leading service providers and
manufacturers from the information and communication technology - ICT
sector.
Director of ITU's Telecommunication Standardization Bureau, Malcolm
Johnson said, the standards are crucial for IPTV to reach its market
potential and global audience.
He said they are also necessary in order to give service providers,
control over their platforms.
The standards will help to encourage innovation, mask the complexity
of services, guarantee quality of service, ensure interoperability
and, ultimately, help players remain competitive.
The announcement was made at the seventh meeting hosted in Malta by
the Maltese Ministry for Competitiveness and Communications.
Operators consider IPTV a key element of a triple-play package of
voice, video and data services.
