ZTE Won the Bid to Build AVS-IPTV

The much speculated bid to build what it believes to be the and first's AVS-IPTV commercial network offered by China Netcom Group Corp. has been won by ZTE Corp.

After much speculations and deliberations and amidst several other bidders, ZTE has been finally chosen and  according to the contract awarded it will be the sole providers of the IPTV network solutions for the project which is believe to be the world's largest.

AVS which is the national audio/video coding and compression standard is China's initiative and intellectual property that protects local service providers' interest and would enable them to save on high patent fees imposed by foreign operators.

Based in China, China Netcom Group Corp. is a broadband communications and fixed-line telecommunications operator and the company has been collaborating with China's Ministry of Information Industry to drive the industrial implementation of AVS standard Trial tests on the use of AVS-IPTV for commercial purposes in Dalian. Since last year November the campaign has been hot and the collaboration has yielded a good result establishing a very firm foundation for the IPTV developments in both the national and international markets.
